The Australian Government has announced a new Pacific Engagement visa (subclass 192) also referred to as ‘PEV’. The new PEV is a permanent visa, meaning anyone granted this visa will be an Australian Permanent resident.
The visa is for nationals of participating Pacific Island countries and Timor-Leste. The visa has not yet commenced but is planned to be available in 2024 and will allow up to 3000 visas per year for eligible individuals and their families.
The visa is aimed to deepen Australia’s connections with the Pacific and contribute to the success of the region.
Key PEV criteria
The be eligible for the new PEV you must:
- Be selected through the new PEV ballot
- Be between 18 and 45 year old
- Have a formal job offer in Australia
- Meet English language requirements
- Meet other visa requirements including health and character
The PEV ballot process
The new PEV involves a pre-application ballot process. This is aimed to give all eligible people an equal opportunity to be selected to apply for the visa. To enter the ballot you will need to:
- Be the correct age
- Be a national of a participating country
- Pay the registration fee
- Complete the online registration form
