COVID concession period has ended

27 November 2023

On Thursday the Australian government announced that 25 November 2023 marks the end date of the ‘COVID-19 concession period’ introduced by the former government on 19 September 2020, which allowed concessions in relation to visas as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The removal of these concessions may affect the eligibility or the visa grant criteria of individuals for a number of different visa types including the subclass 482, 417, 485, 887 visas as well as others.

The Department has indicated that Business Innovation and Investment Program applicants who are eligible to exercise COVID-19 concessions to make a valid application can do so for 3 months after the end of the concession period (up to 26 February 2024 inclusive).

It will be important for individuals and businesses to stay informed and to plan accordingly.
